1. Establishment of Ramakrishna Mission

Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) established the Ramakrishna Mission on 5 May 1897 in the name of his guru Ramakrishna ParamahansaIts main objective was to convey the ideals established by Hindu sages over hundreds of centuries and the importance of the vast and glorious tradition to the general public. In today's article, we will know the purpose, principle and contribution of Ramakrishna Mission.


Swami Vivekananda wanted to establish such an organization whose members could teach the lessons of self-respect and service to the country by uplifting the morale of the people of the country. To fulfill this purpose, he established an organization called Ramakrishna Mission.


2. Objectives of Ramakrishna Mission 

Swami Vivekananda had decided three objectives of Ramakrishna Mission which are as follows---
1. Propagation of Vedanta.
2. To increase harmony among different religions.
3. Service to the poor is service to God.
Swamiji propagated Vedanta not only in India but also in foreign countries. Even today, about 130 branches of Ramakrishna Mission are established in other countries of the world including India.

3. Principles of Ramakrishna Mission 

1. God is one and merging into Brahma by following spirituality is the ultimate religion of man.
2. Every person should live in his religion and love it.
3. All parts of Hindu religion are true and worth protecting and Hindu civilization is very ancient, beautiful and full of spirituality.
4. The soul is immortal.
5. Knowledge and devotion are two paths leading to the same goal.

6. The basis of Hindu religion is Vedanta religion. The nature of religion can be understood only on the basis of Vedanta.
7. Western civilization is full of materialism and deceit. Therefore, Hindus should keep their religion, caste and society away from western civilization.
8. The soul of man is God and he can have darshan of God in any place. Idol worship is the purest and highest form of worship.
In the year 1899, Vikekananda went to America and established branches of the organization in the cities there as well. He gave new life to the Vedanta Society of Nyayark and transformed it into a center of spiritual education. Swami Vivekananda also formed committees to propagate Vedanta in Los Angeles, California and San Francisco.


4. Contribution of Ramakrishna Mission

The institutions of Ramakrishna Mission are spread in many countries including India, these institutions are engaged in many other welfare works apart from promoting the superiority of Hindu religion and efforts to remove superstition and untouchability. The members of Ramakrishna Mission are always ahead in times of famine, epidemic, flood and other calamities.

Ramakrishna Mission is running many primary, high schools and colleges. There are also several libraries of the Ramakrishna Mission. Many orphanages, dispensaries, child care homes, women's welfare, etc. have contributed significantly on behalf of Ramakrishna Mission.


Ramakrishna Mission has had its own special contribution in creating new awakening in India. Ramakrishna Mission has spread the level of Hinduism all over Europe through speeches, activities, writings, poems and conferences since its inception. In the religious field, the members of Ramakrishna Mission spread the glory of Hinduism all over the world. The credit goes to the Ramakrishna Mission for taking Hindu religious renaissance to its highest peak. On September 11, 1893, while addressing the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, Swami Vivekananda said, "Sisters and brothers living in America!
